Depression can feel lonely and isolating. We often feel that we are journeying through it alone. Some of the symptoms include:

  • Feeling sad and hopeless
  • Feeling numb
  • Feeling invaluable
  • Low motivation
  • Loosing interest in pleasurable activities
  • Easily fatigued
  • Feeling foggy and memory impairment
  • Irritable
  • Negative thoughts towards yourself
  • Aches and pains in the body
  • Over or under sleeping

When you change the way you think, you can change the way you feel.

-Dr. David Burns

Often with depression your thoughts and emotions are distorted. We feel sad. Our thoughts are negative. We see most situations through a dark and negative lens. This is why it is imperative to start with symptom treatment. Healing cannot occur without the decrease of symptoms that distort reality. This is why it is important to seek out Edmonton counselling.

At the root of depression is the fact that emotions have been cut off. This is why you may feel numb, hopeless and meaningless. Maybe you were told emotions were bad, you shouldn’t have them, they were dangerous. Unconsciously, the choice is then made to cut emotions off even if you were not aware of it. By allowing yourself to approach your emotions and allow yourself to feel again the symptoms of depression can diminish and then vanish. One of our Edmonton Psychologists would love to help you change your depression.
